SELF PORTRAIT

2023

24.25” x 24.25”

Oil, charcoal, writing fragments, newspaper fragments, shellac on wood board on easel

Exploring the notion of self-portraiture as a form of self-mythmaking, simultaneously layering and excavating stratas which shape who we are. The circular form for me plays with our ever-evolving natures; the portrait itself can be rotated in any direction and in fact was created over different rotations. The easel as opposed to a wall for display of course denotes the perpetually unfinished quality of the work and of us.
